Pupil Voice at Lockyer's Middle School
Pupil Voice is highly valued at Lockyer's Middle School. It is fundamental to driving school-wide improvement and helps students grow as future leaders and decision-makers, preparing them to enter the wider world as active global citizens. Students work in partnership with staff across many groups to ensure our school community continues to thrive, including the Pupil Voice Group, Anti-bullying Ambassadors, Peer Mediators, Sports Leaders, and more.
Joining the Pupil Voice Group
The Pupil Voice Group consists of two elected representatives from each tutor group. To become a representative, pupils must:
- Prepare and deliver a short speech to their tutor group.
- Be elected by a class vote.
Representatives are responsible for ensuring that all classmates' ideas and issues are shared, discussed, and brought forward to the Senior Management Team, giving every student a platform.
Our Impact: 2024/2025
- School Improvement: We regularly met with the school leaders to share and discuss key issues and ideas raised by our classmates. We also had the opportunity to share what rewards we would like to see in our Reward Shop and shared our thoughts on the school's vision for Sense of Belonging.
- New Playground Equipment: We ran a successful campaign to acquire new lunchtime equipment:
- We consulted with all tutor groups on equipment ideas.
- We voted, sourced the equipment, and secured funding from the Friends of Lockyer's.
- We created the daily usage schedule and rules, and we oversee the organisation and distribution of the equipment, with the help of the Sports Leaders.
- Charity Events: We nominate and plan termly, whole-school charity events. We helped raise a significant amount for two different charities: £624 for Ronald McDonald House Charities and £703.15 for Future Pillars Zambia
